We hand-craft all our candles from 100 percent pure beeswax. For
some reason, much commercial beeswax is automatically cut 10 percent
with paraffin. As pure beeswax burns much cleaner and longer than
standard candle paraffin, we can't see any reason for this practice.

We typically use up all our own beeswax early in the year, and then buy
raw wax from other beekeepers that we know personally. We don't
filter our beeswax--we melt it over hot water to precipitate physical
impurities, and then let it trickle slowly through thick fabric under
gravity alone. The result is a very clean wax, but one that still
contains the pollen oils and propolis particles that give natural
beeswax its color and unique scent. We don't use bleaches, acids,
emulsifiers, or any additives of any kind in our candles.

Beeswax melts at a higher temperature than typical candle paraffin--150
degrees Fahrenheit versus 130 to 139 degrees. This means that a
beeswax candle will hold its shape better as the flame approaches the
wax, and will burn in the wick rather than drip. The beeswax
candles therefore last longer. Beeswax burns cleaner, too (it
didn't come out of an oil well), and smells better. They don't smoke. We don't have
to add scents to cover up the petroleum smell.
Our candles are all hand-poured, individually finished, and rejected if
they contain visible defects. We use polyurethane molds even for
our tapers. If the ancients had had polyurethane, nobody
would have been dipping candles. We'll have all of our candles
illustrated here soon. Until then, we have our price list below.
